Spider Veins are patches of red or purple veins that appear just beneath the surface of the skin. They can look like tree branches or spider webs with short and jagged lines. Most commonly found on the legs and face, they can lead to burning, itching, and discomfort in the affected area. Luckily, there are effective treatments that can help resolve these venous abnormalities and bring back a healthy appearance to the skin.
Sclerotherapy when performed by an experienced phlebologist such as Dr Leary, can be a very successful treatment to reduce the appearance of spider veins and to help alleviate symptoms associated with them. A solution called a sclerosant is injected into the affected veins, resulting in its closure and absorption by the body.
The information below details what you can do to get the best results from this treatment and to ensure a safe and pleasant healing process.
Resume your daily activities
Immediately after treatment, you will be able to drive yourself home and resume your daily routine. Activity, including light exercises such as walking, will help to encourage healing.
Wear compression stockings
It is recommended that you wear compression stockings to help promote healthy circulation. These are generally worn for three days after the treatment. They can be removed in the evening right before you go to bed.
Don’t take hot baths
Avoid hot baths, showers and saunas for a couple of days after your sclerotherapy. Extended exposure to direct sunlight is also not recommended.
